X-Wide Receiver

Starter: Brennan Eagles, Junior

The most proven wide receiver that the Longhorns are getting back this season is rising junior former four-star recruit Brennan Eagles. The sizable 6-foot-4 and 225 pound Eagles is likely to be the best candidate to replace the threat that Johnson brought to the table in the last few years. He just needs to find more consistency in his game.

Eagles did register 32 catches for 522 receiving yards and six touchdowns last season. He was actually a big play threat at times. If he sees a similar breakthrough this year compared to what he did last season, then Eagles will be facing a very special 2020 campaign. He is the best bet to have a big season for the Longhorns as far as receivers go.

Backup: Al’Vonte Woodard, Redshirt Sophomore

The esteemed 2018 recruiting class for the Longhorns at wide receiver is going to have to step up to the forefront at some point. And what better time to do it than the third year after arrival onto the Forty Acres. Texas is already seeing better production from the likes of Eagles, but they could use the same out of rising redshirt sophomore Al’Vonte Woodard.

The two potential standout wideouts waiting to breakthrough for the Longhorns from that 2018 signing class at this point are Moore and Woodard. The former four-star recruit Woodard registered three catches for 28 yards in just bits and pieces of three games played in 2019. Most of his contributions have come on special teams in the last two years, but the 6-foot-2 and 210 pound Woodard is ready for a bigger role in his third year on campus.
