H-Wide Receiver

Starter: Jake Smith, Sophomore

In the initial part of the 2019 regular season slate, Texas looked to have a real breakthrough candidate on their hands with the former four-star recruit and 6-foot and 200 pound wideout Jake Smith. Last season, Smith registered 27 total touches for more than 280 yards and six receiving touchdowns.

The ability to make an impact on multiple sides of the ball and make opposing defenders miss even at the line of scrimmage. Smith should see a transition in his role, though, this coming season more from special teams and limited targets in the passing game to solely getting more looks out of the slot.

Backup: Jordan Whittington, Redshirt Freshman

If not for a nagging sports hernia injury that held the former five-star Cuero High School recruit and converted running back Jordan Whittington out for pretty much his entire true freshman campaign, he could be looking at a set in stone starting role this coming season. But Whittington should be sitting behind a fellow former highly touted recruit in Smith at the h-wide receiver spot.

Herman and Yurcich moved Whittington back from running back to his original position ahead of the start of what was supposed to be spring camp. Whittington will also now have extra time to rest up and get healthy for the season that is to come. The 6-foot-1 and 215 pound Whittington is going to be one of the most versatile threats for the Longhorns for years to come.
