Coming out of the Texas football program, who are the top five early prospects to watch in what could be a very promising 2021 NFL Draft class?

In the 2020 NFL Draft, the Texas football program had a more impressive class coming off the Forty Acres than they did last year. The 2019 NFL Draft didn’t see a single former Texas player fall off the board until defensive end Charles Omenihu was selected by the Houston Texans in the fifth round. And the only other Texas Ex that was taken off the board in the 2019 NFL Draft was cornerback Kris Boyd, by the Minnesota Vikings in the seventh round.

Yet, in this year’s festivities that were held completely virtual last month, Texas saw three former players all get selected as high as Omenihu or earlier than him. The first Texas Ex off the board in the 2020 NFL Draft was safety Brandon Jones, who landed with the Miami Dolphins in the third round. Wide receiver Devin Duvernay was also picked up in the third round of the 2020 draft, by the Baltimore Ravens.

The final Texas Ex off the board in this year’s draft was towering 6-foot-6 wide receiver Collin Johnson, who was selected in the fifth round by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Next year’s draft class from Texas could involve a number of early entrants. This 2021 NFL Draft class off of the Forty Acres could also end the lengthy drought of first round picks for the program. The last Texas Ex to be picked in the first round of the NFL Draft was defensive tackle Malcom Brown, by the New England Patriots back in 2015.

Here’s a look into the top five early prospects for the 2021 NFL Draft that could be coming out of the Texas Longhorns football program.
