The 2022 Texas football recruiting class is getting closer to 60 offers sent out, with the most recent going to 4-Star OT Jacob Sexton.

Head coach Tom Herman and co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Herb Hand have nothing but time right now to really piece together the 2021 and 2022 Texas football recruiting classes in the image they want. As far as Texas’ 2022 recruiting class goes, finding any source to get things rolling as far as commitments is big.

Although there’s definitely no reason to panic, it would be good for the Texas Longhorns football program to get that sought after first pledge of the 2022 class. And the Longhorns sent out a scholarship offer on May 7 that went to a target that would be a great initial get for the 2022 recruiting class.

This offer went to four-star Deer Creek 6-foot-5 and 285 pound Edmond, OK, native offensive tackle Jacob Sexton. He posted on his Twitter timeline on Thursday evening that he had officially received the scholarship offer from the Longhorns.

One day prior to Sexton getting his Texas offer, he got one from the Tennessee Volunteers. With offers from Tennessee and Texas now in hand, Sexton has gotten himself around a dozen schools on his growing offer sheet.

Other significant offers he’s received cake from the Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Arkansas Razorbacks, Iowa State Cyclones, Kansas Jayhawks, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Texas A&M Aggies. The most recent offer he got prior to Texas and Tennessee came from head coach Herm Edwards and the Arizona State Sun Devils, on March 31.

There’s no 247Sports Composite ranking in for Sexton yet. But his sole 247Sports recruiting ranking slots him as the nation’s No. 161 high school prospect, No. 17 offensive tackle, and No. 4 prospect out of Oklahoma.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions have all four experts picking Sexton to commit to Oklahoma over the rest of the field. And the Rivals FutureCast has all five of their analysts and publishers predicting Sexton’s landing spot going with Oklahoma.

Sexton is one of more than 55 2022 prospects that have now received an offer from Texas. He’s also the first out-of-State prospect at the offensive tackle position for the 2022 cycle that got a Texas offer. One of the four offers went to an offensive tackle prospect that is now committed to Oklahoma State (four-star Humble Creek product Kelvin Banks).
