Texas Football: 3 reasons Sam Ehlinger will be Big 12’s best player in 2020
This coming season, the Texas football program could have the best player in the Big 12 lining up at the most important position.
Heading into the 2020 season, the Texas football program will live and die by the fortunes of rising senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger. Texas is likely to head into the 2020 college football season with a preseason ranking in the top 20 in the major polls. They return most of their production and have three top 10 ranked recruiting classes under head coach Tom Herman that are coming to a head all at once this coming season.
Last season, Texas finished up with a record of 8-5 (5-4 Big 12) after a win over the No. 11 ranked Utah Utes in the Alamo Bowl by the final score of 38-10. Ehlinger was big for Texas in that Alamo Bowl win over Utah, with more than 270 total yards from scrimmage, four total touchdowns, and just one turnover.
To cap the 2019 season, Ehlinger finished up with 3,663 passing yards, 32 touchdowns through the air, and 10 interceptions. He added 677 rushing yards and seven scores on the ground. He came close to amassing his second straight season with at least 40 total touchdowns and no more than 10 picks.
There’s a lot of expectations that will be falling on the 6-foot-3 and 230 pound tank of a signal caller and this Texas team this coming season. Texas is going to head into the 2020 campaign with the expectation that they’re going to return to the Big 12 Championship Game and a New Year’s Six Bowl, if not the College Football Playoff.
Here’s a look into the three reasons why Ehlinger of the Texas Longhorns football program will be the Big 12’s best player during the 2020 season.
