On May 10, the 2021 Texas football recruiting class made it amid yet another round of prospect finalist cuts, with 4-Star Granview TE Dametrious Crownover.

The 2021 Texas football recruiting class continued their recent string of success and momentum over the weekend by landing a commitment from three-star Martin High School and Arlington, TX, native outside linebacker Morice Blackwell. That allowed Texas’ 2021 recruiting class to nearly crack a number of different top 10’s in the nation from various recruiting media outlets.

Now, the Texas Longhorns football program will be looking to continue the momentum on the recruiting trail as they move into more finalist lists dropped by key prospect targets this month. On May 10, the Longhorns found out they were included in the latest round of finalist cuts from four-star towering 6-foot-6 and 235 pound Grandview tight end Dametrious Crownover.

Over the weekend, the Grandview, TX, native Crownover announced his top 11 finalist schools on his Twitter timeline. His latest round of finalist school cuts was chocked full of current and former Big 12 foes.

Three schools currently in the Big 12 were on his top 11 list, and three schools that were formerly in the conference were included too. The other 10 schools listed in his latest round of finalist cuts included the Texas A&M Aggies, Baylor Bears, Ohio State Buckeyes, Miami Hurricanes, Auburn Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Colorado Buffaloes, LSU Tigers, Oregon Ducks, and Oklahoma State Cowboys.

That leaves slightly over half of the schools that sent Crownover a scholarship offer as out of the running to land his pledge. The highlights of the 14 schools he cut over the weekend includes the Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, Michigan Wolverines, Ole Miss Rebels, TCU Horned Frogs, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Virginia Tech Hokies.

The offer that Crownover received from Texas originally came back on Jan. 16. Texas was actually one of the more recent offers that Crownover received. He hasn’t received all that many since the turn of the calendar year.

Moreover, Crownover ranks as the nation’s No. 222 2021 high school prospect, No. 8 tight end, and No. 34 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). His sole 247Sports recruiting ranking slots him as the No. 9 tight end and No. 39 prospect out of Texas.

The last visit that Crownover had before the novel coronavirus pandemic eliminated the in-person recruiting contact at least through the end of the month of May came back on Feb. 2 with head coach Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M. And the sole expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction in for Crownover picks him to commit to Texas A&M over Texas and the rest of the field.

Texas does already have one true positional tight end committed in their 2021 recruiting class, with three-star Atascocita product Landen King. And three-star Everman athlete Juan Davis can play at tight end too.

If Texas does in fact miss out on Crownover, it’s not the end of the world. But they could always use more depth at the position, given the importance of its versatility in the offensive systems ran under head coach Tom Herman and offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich.
