Which of the four Texas football recruiting classes signed under head coach Tom Herman is the best and most productive so far?

Recruiting success is nothing that any of the recent head coaches of the Texas football program was shy of. Even in the initial years of head coaching tenures for Tom Herman, Mack Brown (at least as far as recruiting rankings go back), and Charlie Strong had pretty solid results on the recruiting trail.

Herman is Texas’ current head coach, heading into his fourth season this year (if nothing alters it due to the novel coronavirus pandemic). He’s rounded out three seasons on the Forty Acres and four signing classes. Herman reeled in his third straight top 10 ranked signing class in the nation at National Signing Day 2020, back in early February.

Even the first recruiting class that Herman signed, just a few months after he came over from the Houston Cougars football program as Texas’ head coach, ranked inside the top 25 in the nation. He didn’t really skip a beat, even though Texas was coming off just a five win season in Strong’s final year as head coach in 2016.

This list for the last four Texas signing classes mainly includes three factors, overall tangible contributions from players so far in college, recruiting rankings, and depth of the classes. The 2017 signing class will obviously have a leg up on the overall production on the last two cycles, but that is taken into account too.

Here’s a look into the definitive ranking of the four recruiting class that Herman has signed as head coach of the Texas Longhorns football program, dating back to the 2017 signing class.

We used the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings for this list.
