1. Bryce Elder, Pitcher

A very likely selection in the first five rounds of the 2020 MLB Draft out of the Longhorns program could be junior 20-year-old right handed pitcher Bryce Elder. Having a solid junior campaign before the college baseball season ended prematurely thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, Elder does have a pretty high stock heading into the 2020 MLB Draft.

In four starts during the 2020 campaign, Elder pitched in 26.0 innings, posting a 2-1 record, 2.08 earned run average, 11.1 strikeouts per nine innings, 0.962 WHIP, 6.2 hits per nine, and 2.4 walks per nine. His strikeout-to-walk ratio was also rather impressive in his four starts in the season that was, at 4.57.

Elder also showed off his tremendous control of his pitches in his 26 innings on the mound in 2020, with just one wild pitch the entire way. He’s a pitcher that always showed tremendous control, and that resulted in an improved stat line. For his career with Texas, Elder has just 3.6 W/9, 0.6 HR/9, and 15 total wild pitches.

In a recent piece from MLB.com concerning to prospects for the 2020 draft, Elder was mentioned among the pitchers with the best slider. Given his proven body of work in the last two seasons, and his versatile arsenal of different pitches, Elder should find himself going in either the third or fourth round of the 2020 MLB Draft.
