The 2021 Texas football recruiting class could be starting to lose out on the race to land a commitment from 4-Star Union CB/RB A.J. Green.

Up until they landed former Baylor Bears commit and four-star Pflugerville Connally cornerback Jahdae Barron in the 2020 Texas football recruiting class, as a retroactive addition to the group, the coaching staff had their work cut out for them this cycle at the position. The lone cornerback that Texas originally landed on National Signing Day 2020 was four-star John Tyler product Kitan Crawford.

It cannot be stated how important it was for the Texas Longhorns football program and their 2020 recruiting class to get ahold of a commitment and enrollment from Barron. Early signs for the Longhorns at the cornerback position in the 2021 recruiting class aren’t too promising. Texas has yet to land any defensive back commits in the 2021 class thus far.

One cornerback that could be getting away from head coach Tom Herman, defensive coordinator Chris Ash, and the Longhorns at this point in time is four-star Union running back/cornerback A.J. Green. As a prospect that could either play in the secondary or the backfield, the Tulsa, OK, native Green was a key target of the 2021 Texas recruiting class early on.

This 5-foot-11 and 190 pound versatile skill position player originally received his Texas offer on March 4. But Texas didn’t stick around in the conversation to land his commitment for very long. As of the afternoon of May 19, the Arkansas Razorbacks are already trending toward landing the commitment of Green.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions are now favoring Arkansas with all nine experts picking Green to commit to the Razorbacks. The new style of expert predictions from 247Sports do have a few that feel like the Oklahoma Sooners could still be lingering around in the conversation to land Green.

The Rivals FutureCast also has 75 percent of their analysts and publishers picking Green to commit to Arkansas over the rest of the field.

Other offers that Green holds came from the Michigan Wolverines, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Baylor, LSU Tigers, Iowa State Cyclones, South Carolina Gamecocks, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Texas A&M Aggies.

Green ranks as the nation’s No. 191 2021 high school prospect, No. 14 cornerback, and No. 3 prospect out of Oklahoma (247Sports Composite). The sole 247Sports recruiting ranking for Green slots him as the nation’s No. 112 high school prospect, No. 11 cornerback, and No. 3 prospect out of Oklahoma.
