3. Oklahoma Sooners

Player their fan base hates most: Colt McCoy

Player Longhorns fans hate most: Baker Mayfield

The most obvious fan base on this list that is still a current rival of the Longhorns is the Big 12 foe Oklahoma Sooners. Year in and year out, the Sooners and Longhorns still meet on the gridiron at least once in the Red River Rivalry game in October at the Texas State Fairgrounds and original Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

Texas and Oklahoma have played some close contests in recent years. They also met on the gridiron twice in one season during the 2018 campaign. Texas came out on top when these two teams met in the 2018 regular season, but came up short to the Sooners in the Big 12 Championship Game.

The all-time series record goes in favor of the Longhorns by a record of 62-48-5. But it’s pretty close of late. Quarterbacks like Colt McCoy helped the Longhorns get a good edge (he was 3-1 vs. Oklahoma), but even Vince Young had a losing record against the Sooners.

But there is a clearly most hated player, at least of late, by Longhorns fans among recent Sooners. The 2017 Heisman Trophy winner and current Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is an easily hated Sooner. Mayfield did beat the Longhorns in two of three tries as a Sooner.

A worthy mention here would go to former All-American linebacker Brian Bosworth.

All in all, when the Longhorns are in the realm of national prominence, it usually comes at the expense of the Sooners. If Texas finds a way to be the one that unseats the Sooners at the top of the Big 12, then the fans up in Norman would be ravenous.
