Texas Football: 3 opponent stadiums that will be most impacted without fans
2. Boone Pickens Stadium
There’s a slim edge that the Longhorns road meeting with the Oklahoma State Cowboys have in Big 12 play over the rest of their road games. It will be vastly different to face opposition like the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Kansas State Wildcats on the road, but those won’t be quite like facing head coach Mike Gundy and the Pokes without fans in Stillwater.
The last time that Oklahoma State and Texas faced each other at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater it was a very unique atmosphere. Oklahoma State was the ultimate derailing factor to Texas’ College Football Playoff hopes when they beat the 6-1 Longhorns during their Homecoming celebration in upset fashion.
For the most part, Texas struggled against Gundy and the Pokes of late. But Texas did finally end their losing skid at the hands of Oklahoma State last season. Maybe playing in an empty Boone Pickens Stadium would take away one of the biggest advantages that the Pokes usually get when playing at home.
Boone Pickens Stadium is a unique atmosphere in the sense that players are pretty much on top of players and coaches on the opposing sideline. Given that this would also be a cold game at a critical point of the season (Thanksgiving Week on Nov. 27), not having the usual atmosphere present at Boone Pickens Stadium could be a big advantage for the Longhorns.
