Without a commitment to date for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class, where would be a good place to start at the quarterback position?

The 2022 Texas football recruiting class may seem far out of sight and out of mind right now, but you can be sure that head coach Tom Herman and recently hired offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich are already scouting out their top targets. Top of mind for each and every recruiting cycle for Herman should be the quarterback position.

For the last four recruiting cycles, Texas did well do lock in at least one solid quarterback commit. In 2017, it was now star rising senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger. For 2018, it was the four-star quarterback commit combination of Cameron Rising (now with the Utah Utes) and Casey Thompson (still with Texas).

String that along throughout the signings of converted running back Roschon Johnson, Hudson Card, Ja’Quinden Jackson, and Jalen Milroe, and you get a nice pipeline of quarterback talent on the Forty Acres. Yet, Milroe is the most recent commit. Texas doesn’t have a clear direction for the 2022 recruiting class yet, as is true for most programs at this point in time.

As of May 22, Texas has only offered three quarterback prospects for the 2022 recruiting class. Two of those are pro-style quarterbacks, and the other one is a dual-threat. More offers are sure to roll out for 2022 quarterback targets in the near future. The Texas coaching staff definitely has ample time at the moment to scout out who their top 2022 target are at the position.

Here’s a deeper look into the three early quarterback targets for the 2022 recruiting class of the Texas Longhorns football program.
