For Texas’ 2022 recruiting class, landing a prototypical quarterback that would fit into the Yurcich-style scheme would be the main task at hand. The Longhorns found quarterbacks that more fit the mould of the likes of what Herman solely looks for, and what former offensive coordinator Tim Beck would likely seek out.

One that would be a nice hybrid fit between what Herman looks for and what Yurcich wants is four-star Junipero Serra pro-style signal caller Maalik Murphy. This 6-foot-4 and 205 pound signal caller hailing from Gardena, CA, is one of the three at his position that has already garnered a Longhorns offer.

Murphy got his Texas offer back on May 21, 2019. Texas was the first program out of the Big 12 to send Murphy a scholarship offer, so that should establish a good niche for them in the long run in his recruitment. Within the last month, Murphy has also received offers from the Washington Huskies and Baylor Bears.

Other significant schools on Murphy’s offer sheet includes the Ohio State Buckeyes, UCLA Bruins, Oregon, Alabama, Florida State, Auburn, Florida Gators, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, and the USC Trojans.

Murphy ranks as the nation’s No. 44 2022 high school prospect, No. 2 dual-threat quarterback, and No. 6 prospect out of California (Top247). He has mostly rave reviews as a quarterback that seemingly features every attribute you look for out of a star with an NFL future. He does need to prove that over the course of his next two seasons with Junipero Serra High School, though.
