Recent Big 12 Title odds continued to place the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas football program as the ultimate front runners this season.

Vegas is still chugging along in getting their odds and lines in for the impending college football and hoops seasons. Despite the threat of the novel coronavirus pandemic to at least alter the plans for the looming college football campaign, Vegas and the media are still looking forward to how various highly touted teams are going to perform this fall. And the Texas football program is an important part of that discussion.

The latest Big 12 Championship odds for the 2020 campaign featured the Texas Longhorns football program in a pretty familiar spot. Those latest Big 12 Championship odds for the looming 2020 season came from the William Hill Sportsbook earlier this month.

In those odds from the William Hill Sportsbook, the Longhorns rang in as the team with the second best chance to win the Big 12 Championship this year. The two teams the Longhorns were sandwiched between on this odds list were the Oklahoma schools. The Oklahoma Sooners had the best odds to win the Big 12 this fall, at +110. And the Oklahoma State Cowboys rang in third with 5/1 odds to win the conference.

Between the two Oklahoma schools was Texas, with 3/2 odds to win the Big 12 this year. Behind them to round out the list (in order) were the Iowa State Cyclones, Baylor Bears, TCU Horned Frogs, West Virginia Mountaineers, Kansas State Wildcats, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Kansas Jayhawks.

Most of the preseason polls released for the coming season feature either four or five teams out of the Big 12 inside the top 25. The usual four teams included in preseason top 25 polls are Oklahoma, Texas, Oklahoma State, and Iowa State. TCU and Baylor are found occasionally in the preseason polls too.

A key point in the discussion to figure out who will win the Big 12 this season comes down to quarterback play. Like usual, quarterback play is likely to be the most important positional factor in the Big 12 this year. Texas will be relying heavily on the play of rising senior star signal caller Sam Ehlinger. To get the Longhorns their first Big 12 Championship since the end of the Mack Brown era, Ehlinger will have to guide his team past the likes of Spencer Sanders and Spencer Rattler to beat the Oklahoma schools.

Texas also can’t slip up against teams like TCU, Baylor, and Iowa State. Baylor got the best of Texas last season as the Bears were the team that faced Oklahoma in the 2019 Big 12 Championship Game. Ehlinger’s play can get Texas back to the conference title game for the first time since 2018.

The Longhorns finished up the 2019 season with a record of 8-5 (5-4 Big 12) after beating the Utah Utes in the Alamo Bowl. Texas turned over much of their coaching staff at the conclusion of the 2019 regular season so this should be a rejuvenated team through and through this coming season.
