In the past four Texas football recruiting classes, who were the costliest decommitments that head coach Tom Herman ever saw?

The conversation surrounding the recent decommitments for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class really heated up when head coach Tom Herman lost the pledge of three-star Atascocita tight end Landen King. Within the last four months alone, Texas has already lost out on two tight end commitments in their 2021 recruiting class.

Texas hasn’t lost all that much throughout the tenure of Herman on the Forty Acres in the way of decommitments. But whenever there is major coaching staff turnover, a lot of shaky results on the recruiting trail can follow. That’s what Texas got for a bit of time when Texas was turning over so much of their coaching staff at the conclusion of the 2019 regular season.

The other time where Texas saw a lot of turmoil on the recruiting trail was when former head coach Charlie Strong was replaced by Herman following the 2016 season. Texas didn’t reel in the best 2017 signing class in Herman’s first year at the helm. But the three recruiting classes that followed all ranked among the top 10 best in the nation.

And the 2021 recruiting class could be on a good pace if Texas can pick back up the momentum it found on the trail prior to Memorial Day Weekend. Texas found a real wave of momentum on the recruiting trail through the end of April and most of this month.

With the good will come the bad for Texas on the recruiting trail. It is important to know who they missed out on and what not to do for various classes in the near future.

Here’s a look back at the three costliest decommitments during the coaching tenure of Herman thus far with the Texas Longhorns football program.
