The upcoming regular season slate for the Texas football program could include a difficult run throughout the Big 12 slate.

During the upcoming 2020 college football season, head coach Tom Herman and his Texas football squad needs to find new life under a rejuvenated staff to meet expectations. Last season, Herman was forced to turnover much of his coaching staff after amassing just a seven win regular season. He got rid of many of his positional coaches and both coordinators after the conclusion of the 2019 regular season.

Texas finished up with a record of 8-5 (5-4 Big 12) last season after knocking off the No. 11 ranked and PAC-12 runner-up Utah Utes in the Alamo Bowl by the final score of 38-10. If not for beating Utah in the Alamo Bowl and finishing up with an eight win season, Herman might be on one of the hottest seats in the entire country this offseason.

However, there needs to be improvement in how Texas performs in the thick of the Big 12 slate. That cost them in each of Herman’s three seasons on the Forty Acres to date. Especially when it looked like Texas could be a potential College Football Playoff contender at times in the last two seasons, some stingy conference opposition derailed their hopes quickly.

The four losses in Big 12 play last year for Texas came at the hands of the rival Oklahoma Sooners, TCU Horned Frogs, Iowa State Cyclones, and Baylor Bears. The losses to Oklahoma and Baylor were somewhat understandable, but Texas just has to take care of business against the likes of Iowa State and Baylor.

Here’s a look into the three most problematic Big 12 teams the Texas Longhorns football program will face in the 2020 season.
