2. Oklahoma State Cowboys

Possibly the best win from the 2019 regular season for Herman and the Longhorns came at home under the lights at DKR back on Sep. 21 in the Big 12 opener over head coach Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Texas finally got the Oklahoma State monkey off their back last season, as Gundy and the Pokes previously held a four-game winning streak in this series.

Moreover, the Oklahoma schools in general are going to be a tough out for the Longhorns this fall. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State might be the two highest ranked teams in the Big 12 in the major preseason polls. And it goes without saying that the skill position weapons in Stillwater are going to be a load for any opposing defense to deal with.

Recently hired Texas defensive coordinator and former Rutgers head coach Chris Ash will really be put to the test when he has to face the likes of rising sophomore quarterback Spencer Sanders, junior running back Chuba Hubbard, and senior wide receiver Tylan Wallace.

Last season, Hubbard finished in the top 10 of the Heisman voting. He registered nearly 2,300 total yards from scrimmage and 21 rushing touchdowns. Texas did well to contain Hubbard last year for the most part, but that still resulted in 135 total yards from scrimmage and two rushing touchdowns.

What also makes this matchup against Oklahoma State difficult is that it comes on the road at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater on Thanksgiving Week. Depending on how the novel coronavirus pandemic impacts the amount of fans in the stands, Boone Pickens Stadium could be an electric atmosphere for the Longhorns to visit on Nov. 27.
