1. Sam is also the more efficient passer all-around

All-around, Ehlinger is more efficient for the Longhorns behind center than Mond is for the Aggies. While completion percentage is obviously a good indicator of how accurate each quarterback is, passer efficiency rating is a good one of overall productiveness and efficiency.

Here’s the passer efficiency ratings for Mond from each of his last three seasons in College Station:

  1. Freshman: 108.8
  2. Sophomore: 135.0
  3. Junior: 131.1

Meanwhile, here’s the passer efficiency ratings for Ehlinger in each of his last three seasons on the Forty Acres:

  1. Freshman: 124.1
  2. Sophomore: 146.8
  3. Junior: 151.8

The passer efficiency rating that Ehlinger posted last season, while tallying up 39 total touchdowns with just 10 interceptions, is starting to draw upon the level of a potential Heisman finalist. Mond could get there with how much of a threat he is with his legs, but his passer efficiency rating didn’t get him to where he needed to be from his sophomore to junior seasons.

Another good indicator of overall passer efficiency (that can also bank on wide receiver talent) is adjusted yards per passing attempt. In each of the last two seasons, Ehlinger posted around 8.5 adjusted yards per passing attempt. Meanwhile, Mond posted 7.7 adjusted yards per passing attempt as a sophomore and 6.9 as a junior. That’s not the trend you want to see from a quarterback that should be improving his efficiency as a thrower.
