Sizable losses for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class continue to pile up on May 28 with 4-Star Denton-Guyer CB Deuce Harmon committing to Texas A&M.

A big hit was taken to the 2021 Texas football recruiting class on May 28, with the loss of one of the most important in-state cornerback targets of this entire cycle. Head coach Tom Herman and cornerbacks coach Jay Valai lost out on the race to land the commitment of four-star Denton-Guyer cornerback Deuce Harmon on Thursday afternoon.

Harmon wound up picking to link up with head coach Jimbo Fisher and the in-state rival Texas A&M Aggies over the Texas Longhorns football program. This 5-foot-9 and 185 pound Denton, TX, native would’ve been the first pledge at the cornerback position in the Longhorns 2021 recruiting class.

Moreover, Harmon announced his commitment to Texas A&M over the rest of the field of schools that offered him on May 28 via social media. He posted a lengthy message on his Twitter timeline with the announcement.

Prior to announcing his commitment to Texas A&M on Thursday afternoon, he was largely trending between the Aggies and Longhorns both. It was hard to know where his interests lied on the morning of May 28.

He picked the Aggies over offers from 22 other schools including the Longhorns, Arkansas Razorbacks, Baylor Bears, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Ole Miss Rebels, Oregon Ducks, SMU Mustangs, TCU Horned Frogs, Texas Tech Red Raiders, USC Trojans, and Virginia Tech Hokies.

Harmon ranks as the nation’s No. 316 2021 high school prospect, No. 23 cornerback, and No. 46 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). The sole 247Sports recruiting rankings slots him as the nation’s No. 227 high school prospect, No. 16 cornerback, and No. 37 prospect out of Texas.

It was not all that long ago that Harmon got his scholarship offer from Texas in the first place. He got his Texas offer back on April 9, 2020. The Illinois Fighting Illini were the latest program to offer Harmon prior to him announcing the commitment to Texas A&M.

Harmon had also included the Longhorns and Aggies in his top seven finalist schools, which he released on his Twitter timeline back on May 7.
