Texas Football: 3 forgotten teammates of Vince Young in the NFL
The short but polarizing NFL career of the former Texas football legendary quarterback Vince Young would end after just six years.
Especially in the latter years of his run in the NFL, the professional career of former Texas football superstar quarterback and national title winner Vince Young was mostly one to forget. VY never lived up to his massive billing as the third overall pick of the Tennessee Titans in the 2006 NFL Draft. Granted the 2006 NFL Draft all-around had a ton of hype among the top 10 picks, and a lot of them didn’t pan out as anticipated.
And most of the busts among the top 10 picks in the 2006 NFL Draft came out of the Texas and USC Trojans football programs. One of two Texas Exes picked in the top 10 of the 2006 draft was VY. The two former Trojans picked in the top 10 of the 2006 draft were former Heisman winning running back (has since been retracted by the NCAA) Reggie Bush and quarterback Matt Leinart.
There were also some true studs picked in the top 10 of the 2006 draft, including defensive end Mario Williams, linebacker A.J. Hawk, tight end Vernon Davis, and defensive back Donte Whitner. One Texas Ex that was picked up in the top 10 in this draft that panned out well in the NFL is safety Michael Huff.
If only VY could’ve made it through the difficult times early in his career with the Titans, his NFL journey might’ve looked more successful in the end. But the pressure got to him and his NFL run ended just six seasons into his career.
During his short-lived NFL career, VY played for just two different teams. The last team he suited up for before his career ended was the Philadelphia Eagles, in 2011. He spent the other five years of his career with the Titans in the AFC South. There were some decent teams he was a part of, but nothing truly special.
Given that, here’s a look back at three often forgotten NFL teammates of the former superstar quarterback out of the Texas Longhorns football program VY.
