Former Texas football head coach Mack Brown coached so many stars on the Forty Acres, but the lesser known ones need recognition too.

During his tenure at the Texas football program, former head coach Mack Brown coached a lot of uber-talented and nationally prominent teams. Most notable of those was the 2005 team, led by superstar quarterback Vince Young, that would upend the USC Trojans in the 2006 Rose Bowl/BCS National Championship Game. That 2005-06 Texas squad won the program’s last national title, and created an instant classic Rose Bowl game in the process.

There were so many more accomplishments that Brown reeled in during his time as head coach on the Forty Acres. He had one Heisman Trophy winner (likely should’ve had two with at least either VY or Colt McCoy) to go along with that one national title and

Brown was also a two-time Big 12 Coach of the Year, one-time Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year, and one-time ACC Coach of the Year. That one ACC Coach of the Year award came during his initial run as head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels back in the 1990’s. He’s also the current Tar Heels head coach.

Noted for his postseason success, Brown is fifth in college football history among most bowl wins for a head coach (14-8 record). He sits in the top 10 all-time for wins for FBS head coaches and in total bowl games made. Brown tends to find success often at his posts, including with UNC and the Tulane Green Wave.

Most of his biggest and best accolades came during his roughly 15-year long stint as Texas head coach. And here’s a look back at three players you forgot about that Brown coached up during his time with the Texas Longhorns football program.
