The first punter commit in three cycles committed to the 2021 Texas football recruiting class on May 29 with the pledge of ProKick’s Isaac Pearson.

The pipeline of Australian punters landing with various Texas football recruiting class since former head coach Charlie Strong landed a commitment from current Seattle Seahawks Pro Bowler Michael Dickson was strong. On May 29, head coach Tom Herman took another stab at bringing in a solid special teams unit addition from overseas by landing a commitment from unranked ProKick Australia 6-foot-2 and 215 pound punter Isaac Pearson.

On the same day that Pearson received his scholarship offer from the 2021 recruiting class of the Texas Longhorns football program, he announced his commitment to the school.

Pearson announced his scholarship offer from, and commitment to, the Longhorns program on his Twitter timeline on Friday morning. He becomes the first addition to the special teams unit in the 2021 recruiting class of the Longhorns.

Pearson is the first commitment from a punter to any Longhorns recruiting class since former three-star ProKick Australia product Ryan Bujcevski signed with Herman back in 2018. Bucjevski was the top ranked punter prospect in the 2018 recruiting cycle.

Once Bujcevski is done on the Forty Acres, special teams coach Jay Boulware and Herman will have a punter replacement in waiting. And the ProKick Australia program has brought a lot of special teams success to the Forty Acres already.

Snagging international prospects is a popular move around the Big 12 for the 2021 recruiting cycle. The TCU Horned Frogs, Iowa State Cyclones, and West Virginia Mountaineers have all snagged at least one overseas commitment in their various 2021 recruiting classes. Texas now joins the party for having at least one pledge from outside the United States in their 2021 class.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Texas recruiting class holds steady with the No. 14 slot in the nation and in the top spot in the Big 12. Pearson is the 11th commitment of the 2021 class.
