3. Jalen Green, Cornerback

When he was actually healthy at the outset of last season, the former highly touted four-star recruit and Houston, TX, native cornerback Jalen Green came out flying. As part of that uber-talented 2018 recruiting class that ranked among the top three in the national class rankings, Green was one of the most highly anticipated cornerback signees along with fellow former four-star recruit Anthony Cook.

Since then, a whole new group of cornerbacks have emerged. It looks now as if the future of the cornerback position for the Longhorns will be Green, fellow junior D’shawn Jamison, and rising sophomore Kenyatta Watson II. The projected starters at the cornerback positions this coming season should be Green and Jamison.

Last season, Green registered 30 total tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, and five pass deflections. His first career start came in the Longhorns season opening win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at home. He had five total tackles and two pass deflections in that convincing win over Louisiana Tech last year.

In the following week against the eventual National Champions LSU Tigers, Green registered a whopping eight total tackles. And his three other best games came against three solid teams in the TCU Horned Frogs, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and Baylor Bears. He combined for 10 total tackles, two pass deflections, and two tackles for loss in those three games. Unfortunately those three games only resulted in one win for Texas.

Watch out for the talented 6-foot-1 and 185 pound defensive back Green to be one of the biggest potential breakthroughs on this side of the ball in 2020.
