Two key additions to the 2021 Texas football recruiting class could be looming for June 15, if they can land both Ishmael Ibraheem and J.D. Coffey III.

In two of the most important targets of the 2021 Texas football recruiting class have now officially announced when they will be making their commitment decisions later this month. Four-star Kimball cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem and four-star Kennedale safety J.D. Coffey III both announced on their Twitter timelines on June 1 that their commitment decision dates were set for June 15.

This now makes the middle of June one of the most critical times on the recruiting trail for Texas’ 2021 class. Texas has yet to land a single cornerback or safety commitment in the 2021 recruiting class, so this could be the perfect storm that head coach Tom Herman and defensive coordinator Chris Ash needs to piece together a more complete group for this cycle.

In the 2020 class, Texas landed a few safeties, but only signed one cornerback originally. Cornerbacks coach Jay Valai along with Herman and Ash were largely saved when a late commitment dropped in their laps from former Baylor Bears signee and four-star corner Jahdae Barron earlier this spring.

Texas could use an all-around deeper and more highly touted class at the moment. They have sunk back down well outside of the top 10 classes in the nation. In fact per the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, Texas’ 2021 recruiting class ranks at No. 16 in the nation and is barely clinging onto the top spot in the Big 12 ahead of the Oklahoma Sooners, Iowa State Cyclones, and Baylor.

Thus far, Texas has 11 commitments in their 2021 class. The latest commitment came from yet another ProKick Australia punter Isaac Pearson. But Texas does need to get down to business and starting bringing in more talent to the 2021 class. And here’s a good opportunity to do just that.

Here’s a deeper look into the breakdown of the two 2021 targets of the Texas Longhorns football program that now have a set decision date for June 15.
