The 2022 Texas football recruiting class could zoning in on their first potential commitment with 5-Star Bowie OL Devon Campbell.

A good place to start for the first commitment in the 2022 Texas football recruiting class would be one of the highly prioritized in-state offers that are already sent out by the coaching staff. Head coach Tom Herman and offensive line coach/co-offensive coordinator Herb Hand sent an offer out to five-star (or four-star depending on the outlet you look at) Bowie offensive tackle Devon Campbell back on Dec. 18, 2019.

The Longhorns got in on the race to land Campbell really early on. Texas was one of the first three Power Five programs to send a scholarship offer to the Arlington, TX, native Campbell.

Other significant programs that offered Campbell thus far includes the Oklahoma Sooners, Alabama Crimson Tide, Baylor Bears, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, LSU Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Penn State Nittany Lions, TCU Horned Frogs, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, and Texas Tech Red Raiders.

A lot of the programs that have offered Campbell thus far hail from the Big 12, or are Group of Five teams out of the state of Texas.

Furthermore, Campbell ranks as the nation’s No. 14 2022 high school prospect, top overall offensive guard, and No. 2 prospect out of Texas. The only 2022 prospect out of Texas that ranks higher than Campbell is Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback and fellow Longhorns recruiting target Quinn Ewers.

Campbell is definitely an offensive guard that could be a game-changing talent for the Longhorns. This 6-foot-4 and 265 pound standout lineman has excellent fundamentals and footwork, an insane motor off the line of scrimmage, and he’s just an overall gifted athlete that could still put on some size.

There is now one expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction in for Campbell as of June 3. That one expert Crystal Ball Prediction has him committing to Texas over the rest of the field.

It seems like Campbell is really falling toward the Longhorns at the moment. But this is a weird time on the recruiting trail, and it’s hard to know where the Texas coaching staff will go from here.

But it would be huge for Texas to get their first 2022 commitment, which would make the Longhorns one of the three Big 12 programs to get one of this cycle. The Oklahoma schools are the only two programs with a 2022 commit currently.
