Another prospect that had his commitment mostly boil down to the likes of the Longhorns and Aggies was five-star Cibolo-Steele highly touted athlete Jaylon Jones. This 6-foot-1.5 and 190 pound Cibolo, TX, native had many less schools on his offer sheet than his new Texas A&M teammate Demas.

Jones held offers from 16 schools including the Crimson Tide, Florida Gators, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Arkansas Razorbacks, TCU Horned Frogs, Baylor Bears, Longhorns, and USC. He ultimately picked Texas A&M, signed his National Letter of Intent, and enrolled early for the spring semester over Texas and the rest of the field.

But the final 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions also had Texas right on the tail of Texas A&M, similar to the final picks for Demas. The writing was on the wall that he was going to pick the Aggies over the Longhorns in the final weeks leading up to his commitment.

Jones ranked as the nation’s No. 21 2021 high school prospect, No. 1 safety and/or No. 1 athlete, No. 2 prospect out of Texas, and No. 406 recruit of all-time (247Sports Composite). If Texas was able to land Jones, he would’ve become a difference maker and potential third straight signing class that could play at the safety position.
