The biggest recruiting battle that Texas is facing at the running back position for the remainder of this cycle involves four-star Cy-Fair product L.J. Johnson. Possibly two of the teams at the forefront of Johnson’s recruitment at the moment are the in-state rivals Texas A&M Aggies and the Longhorns.

This 5-foot-10 and 205 pound running back ranks as the nation’s No. 42 2021 high school prospect, No. 4 running back, and No. 7 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). The sole 247Sports recruiting rankings ranks Johnson as the nation’s No. 29 2021 prospect, No. 3 running back, and No. 4 prospect out of Texas.

Johnson currently has 40 schools on his lengthy offer sheet. The highlights of the offers he holds thus far came from the Longhorns, Aggies, Sooners, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Auburn Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Baylor Bears, Florida Gators, Michigan Wolverines, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, Tennessee Volunteers, and USC Trojans.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions do favor Johnson to land with the Aggies as of June 4. The Rivals FutureCast also has 100 percent of their analysts and publishers picking Johnson to commit to Texas A&M over the rest of the field.

This is a prospect that the Longhorns should use their full arsenal to get to the Forty Acres. He’s about the best chance that Texas has at getting a top tier running back commit in this class, beyond five-star Garland, TX, native Camar Wheaton.
