Still holding a spot in the top 20 in the nation, the 2021 Texas football recruiting class could use a big time commit in the near future to stay afloat.
At the current moment, the 2021 Texas football recruiting class is starting to fall down in the national class rankings again. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2020 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 17 in the nation, and remains in the top spot in the Big 12. But it might take long before Texas is passed up in the Big 12 recruiting rankings by a competing program like the Oklahoma Sooners or Baylor Bears.
Texas currently holds 11 commitments in their 2021 recruiting class, the highest rated of which is five-star Denton-Ryan athlete Ja’Tavion Sanders. The 6-foot-3.5 and 220 pound Denton, TX, native Sanders could either fit in the receiving corps or the front seven for the Longhorns starting next year.
Other key commits that highlight that Longhorns 2021 recruiting class includes four-star Denton-Ryan athlete Billy Bowman Jr., four-star Katy-Tompkins dual-threat quarterback Jalen Milroe, and recently upgraded four-star Martin outside linebacker Morice Blackwell. Texas also has underrated commits like three-star Hallettsville running back Jonathon Brooks and three-star Everman athlete/tight end Juan Davis committed in the 2021 class.
But Texas did have a few misses thus far that will be hard to deal with when it’s all said and done. Since Texas does have one five-star commit in the 2021 class, but has missed on a few, it is a storyline worth noting. There are still various five-star prospect targets out there for head coach Tom Herman to pursue with his all (e.g. five-star offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyer and five-star running back Camar Wheaton).
Here’s a look into the three biggest five-star recruiting misses thus far for the Longhorns 2021 class.
