If Texas lands the commitment of five-star Garland, TX, native elite running back Wheaton in the 2021 class, then missing out on the pledge of five-star Hopewell product TreVeyon Henderson won’t matter as much. Texas did sit among the dozen or so finalist schools at one point to land Henderson, but Ohio State ultimately nabbed him.

Ohio State landed the commitment of Henderson over offers from nearly 40 other schools. The highlights of the rest of his offer sheet includes Alabama, Auburn, Florida, the Clemson Tigers, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Penn State Nittany Lions, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and USC.

Henderson ranks as the nation’s No. 19 2021 high school prospect, No. 2 running back, and somehow the No. 3 prospect out of Virginia. This is a really strong recruiting cycle for Virginia high school prospects. Five-star cornerback Tony Grimes and five-star offensive tackle Tristan Leigh are ranked higher in-state than Henderson, and all three of the Virginia natives hold Texas offers.

Texas is fine at running back for the time being with five-star Salpointe Catholic product Bijan Robinson being the top prospect at the position in the nation for the 2020 cycle now on campus. Brooks is also a nice underrated addition to the 2021 class. But running back is an important pipeline for Herman and offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich to keep alive consistently for the Longhorns.
