3. Is there another five-star commit in waiting?

As the lone five-star commit in the 2021 Longhorns class, the Denton, TX, native Sanders is the anchor holding down the spot for this group in the national class rankings. There could be an additional five-star commit down the line in the 2021 class, but it’s not going to be any bit of easy.

Two of the most significant five-star targets for this cycle on the Forty Acres are five-star All Saints Episcopal offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyer and Lakeview Centennial running back Camar Wheaton. These two are the prospects that the Texas coaching staff should be prioritizing above all else it seems.

Both Wheaton and Brockermeyer rank among the top 20 2021 high school prospects in the nation (per 247Sports Composite prospect rankings). Brockermeyer is one of the top five prospects in the nation, and the top offensive tackle. But the Alabama Crimson Tide are fast approaching to land the commitment of Brockermeyer. Herman and offensive line coach Herb Hand are going to need to do the most to keep the interests of Brockermeyer (and his brother) to the Forty Acres.

Moreover, if Texas lands a commitment from Wheaton, it could be the second straight recruiting cycle where they land the top ranked running back prospect in the nation. In the 2020 recruiting class, Texas signed five-star Salpointe Catholic rusher Bijan Robinson, who passed up fellow five-star Zachary Evans to be the top ranked running back in the nation.

But Oklahoma looks to be the favorite to land the commitment of Wheaton at this point in time.
