We would truly see the value that Herman and the Longhorns now find in a wide receiver that is very versatile, albeit not consistently proven. Former Virginia Tech Hokies rising senior 6-foot and 185 pound wide receiver Hezekiah Grimsley seemed to be one of the more surprising players from that program to hit the transfer portal entering the offseason.

Texas could make the move to pull a former Virginia Tech commit (four-star wide receiver Latrell Neville) and one of their former players out of the transfer portal in a matter of just a few weeks if they played their cards right. This also assumes that the Longhorns want to pursue a versatile but largely unproven skill position threat like Gimsley in the portal.

Moreover, Grimsley is a former three-star recruit that signed as part of Virginia Tech’s 2017 recruiting class. The Williamsburg, VA, native ranked as the nation’s No. 703 2017 high school prospect, No. 100 wide receiver, and No. 20 prospect out of Virginia (247Sports Composite). He held offers from nine schools including the Iowa State Cyclones, East Carolina Pirates, Marshall Thundering Herd, Syracuse Orange, and Maryland Terrapins.

During his three years playing at Virginia Tech, Grimsley registered 774 total yards from scrimmage on 68 touchdowns, for four total touchdowns. Most of those total yards were in the receiving game. He even averaged 17.0 yards per catch during his junior season.

Grimsley would be an outside of the box idea for Herman to pursue, but it could have some traction given the limited options at this point in time.
