Texas Football: 3 games that will make or break the 2020 season
2. LSU Tigers
Most notable returning player: Ja’Marr Chase, Junior WR
Definitely the most significant non-conference game this season (and maybe the most impactful regular season game for the Longhorns overall) comes against the defending National Champion LSU Tigers. And this round of the home-and-home series against LSU is made even more difficult this season when Texas has to travel to Baton Rouge to take them on at Death Valley.
A night game under the lights at Tiger Stadium against the defending National Champion LSU sounds like a really difficult feat for any team, no matter how talented. Even though LSU will be lining up this season without the reigning Heisman Trophy, and the top overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft Joe Burrow, they are still an extremely formidable foe.
The most notable returning player for the Tigers this season is without a doubt rising junior superstar wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase. Last season, the Biletnikoff Award winner and First-Team All-American Chase registered a whopping 84 catches for 1,780 receiving yards, and 20 touchdown catches.
Rising sophomore star defensive back Derek Stingley Jr. is also a force to be reckoned with.
If Texas is able to knock off LSU in their own territory, then it will make a statement to the entire country that the Longhorns could be a true College Football Playoff contender. What better way to start off the season on a high-note and take a large wave of momentum into Big 12 play than beating LSU on Sep. 12.
