There could be a new potential transfer portal target on the rise for Texas football heading into the weekend with former Iowa LB Dillon Doyle.

The NCAA Transfer Portal is a favorite place to turn for head coach Tom Herman and the Texas football program so far this offseason. They were able to seek out the former Michigan Wolverines rising senior graduate transfer wide receiver Tarik Black out of the portal earlier in the offseason. And it looks like they already have their next target in sight.

Where the Longhorns are reportedly looking for help out of the transfer portal at this point in time (per Horns247 paid content) is to the Big Ten. The son of the Iowa Hawkeyes strength and conditioning coach that was recently placed on leave, Chris Doyle, and rising redshirt sophomore outside linebacker Dillon Doyle.

While the Longhorns aren’t chomping at the bit to land Doyle right now, they are looking into what he brings to the table. Apparently they are scouting out Doyle like they would any other potential recruit coming out of high school or a JUCO.

Doyle announced his intentions to put his name into the transfer portal after his dad, and the Iowa strength and conditioning coach, was placed on leave earlier this month. He spent just two years in Iowa City, getting playing time in both seasons with the Hawkeyes.

Linebacker is a possible position of need for Texas to address this offseason. So if the coaching staff feels that Doyle is the right fit, then this could help fill a depth need entering the 2020 season.

In his career with the Hawkeyes, Doyle played in bits and pieces of eight games. He registered 25 total tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, and one forced fumble, in the last two seasons. Most of that production came last season with Iowa.

Moreover, Doyle is a former three-star outside linebacker recruit hailing from West Senior High School in Iowa City, IA. He ranked as the nation’s No. 762 2018 high school prospect, No. 47 outside linebacker, and No. 4 prospect out of Iowa (247Sports Composite). The sole 247Sports recruiting ranking slotted him as the No. 32 outside linebacker and No. 2 prospect out of Iowa.

He only held offers from a few FBS schools coming out of high school during the 2018 recruiting cycle, including the likes of the UCF Knights, Northern Illinois Huskies, and Iowa. If he were to join the Longhorns linebacker corps, then he would be the fourth redshirt sophomore at the position. He would join the likes of Ayodele Adeoye and Byron Vaughns.

Next. JD Spielman a perfect Longhorns transfer target. dark

This will be an important decision for defensive coordinator Chris Ash and linebackers coach/co-defensive coordinator Coleman Hutzler to figure out if Doyle fits well with the Longhorns. This sizable 6-foot-3 and 235 pound outside linebacker at least has some experience that he brings to the table, and the transfer portal is pretty thin at this position at the moment.
