Texas Football: 3 biggest DB setbacks for Longhorns this offseason
2. BJ Foster breaking his hand
Herman announced late last week that standout rising junior nickelback and the former five-star recruit BJ Foster is dealing with a fractured hand after one of the weirder incidents in recent memory for this program. Foster has to be one of the leaders in terms of production and effort along this Texas defense this fall, which makes this injury news even weirder and more costly.
What happened to Foster was that he punched his car once he figured out that someone crashed into it without leaving any information. Apparently his frustration boiled over and he will be dealing with this fracture to his hand heading into summer workouts. It doesn’t sound like he’s planning on missing all that much time during workouts either.
But he’ll definitely be setback compared to what he could do at full strength. Foster is one of the most talented players on either side of the ball for the Longhorns. He has dealt with numerous injury problems during his college career to date, namely of the upper-body nature. This is yet another hurdle he’ll face in his road to fulfilling his true potential in college.
During his two years playing with the Longhorns so far, Foster registered 81 total tackles, 14.0 tackles for loss, five sacks, two interceptions, six pass deflections, and two forced fumbles, in just 21 games played. Most of that production came last season, as he started getting more looks at the nickelback position instead of at safety.
All in all, while Foster isn’t anticipated to miss any game action this fall as of now, this is still a notable concern for the work he’s putting in this offseason.
