Finally officially heading into some campus workouts/football activities, the Texas football program has a few players worth watching this summer.

Ramping up for summer workouts means that the Texas football program has to return to some form of a new normal to prepare for the upcoming 2020 season in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic. Head coach Tom Herman will have a lot on his plate to get his team set for another difficult non-conference slate this fall. Texas gets the LSU Tigers in Week 2, and the regular season opener on Sep. 5 at home against the South Florida Bulls won’t be an overwhelmingly easy win over a Group if Five team.

It’s hard to imagine an offseason of summer workouts that are going to be as crucial as this year. COVID-19 already put a halt to spring camps around the country for every college football program. That was not just something that impacted the Longhorns, or the Big 12, alone.

Texas began summer workouts last week, starting with getting players back to campus. Preparations for summer workouts included testing the 58 players for COVID-19, and at least two of them apparently already tested positive. Although, we don’t know who those two players that tested positive for COVID-19 are at this point in time.

Even with the two players testing positive, the Longhorns are getting heavy into summer workouts. They need a good run in the summer months to make sure fall camp goes smooth and they’re ready for the looming 2020 season.

Here’s a look into the five players for the Longhorns that will be the most important to watch during summer workouts this year.
