2. Roschon Johnson, Running Back

One of the most important positions through and through to be multiple in both the Herman and Yurcich-led offensive schemes is at running back. The Herman running backs have to be very multiple, and they’re going to be motioning around even more so than they did prior in all likelihood with Yurcich at the helm.

And the best addition to the Texas running back room last year wound up coming from a converted quarterback. Former four-star dual-threat quarterback recruit and rising sophomore Roschon Johnson moved to running back, along with two others during either spring or fall camp. And he stood out right away at his new position.

The understanding that Roschon had for multiple different offensive schemes and his already strong downhill running ability shined through right from the word go. He registered 807 total yards from scrimmage and eight total touchdowns. Of those more than 800 total yards, roughly 650 of them were on the ground. He averaged 5.3 yards per carry and seven of his touchdowns were on the ground.

The 6-foot-2 and 225 pound Johnson is going to have to continue to improve his body to take more of a beating, like anyone at the running back position. He held up well last season, and will hopefully continue to do so this fall. But given the addition of Bijan Robinson to the running back room, Roschon needs to have another successful offseason at his different position.
