Texas Football: Impact of landing two recent 4-Star 2021 DB commits
The 2021 Texas football recruiting class was able to add two key defensive back commits on June 15, including CB Ishmael Ibraheem and S JD Coffey III.
On June 15, the 2021 Texas football recruiting class got a lot stronger with the additions of two key four-star defensive backs. There was a set decision date between the likes of four-star Kennedale safety JD Coffey IIi and four-star Kimball cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem, for Monday afternoon. And Texas wound up getting good news from both of them.
On the Twitter timeline of Coffey on June 15, the decisions for both of these two four-star defensive backs was announced. They both obviously wound up picking the Longhorns in a reveal at the end of the video on Twitter.
Since Texas didn’t have a single cornerback or safety commit in their 2021 recruiting class, getting the commitments of these two was pivotal. Evening out the positions for which the 2021 class fills was a key move for head coach Tom Herman and recently hired defensive coordinator Chris Ash.

Landing the commitments of Coffey and Ibraheem brings the Longhorns 2021 class up to 13 commits. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 9 in the nation and remains steady in the top spot in the Big 12. Texas got a much larger lead over the likes of the Baylor Bears and Oklahoma Sooners in the Big 12 recruiting rankings on June 15 too.
The next best class in the Big 12 at this point in time is Baylor, who ranks at No. 22 in the nation, with 15 total commitments (all of which are three-star prospects). Oklahoma should eventually catch up and pass Baylor in the national class rankings, though.
Here’s a look into the breakdown of the two most recent Texas defensive back commits in the 2021 class.
