3. Oklahoma Sooners

As a whole, there could be a big debate whether the Oklahoma football program or the Texas A&M Aggies are the biggest rival of the Longhorns throughout program history. If not for Texas A&M bolting from the Big 12 to join up with the SEC West a little less than one decade ago, then it might be a closer debate.

Anyhow, we’re placing Oklahoma as the third biggest villain in the history of the Longhorns program.

The all-time series record in the Red River Shootout does fall in favor of Texas, 62-48-5. But this is one of the closer all-time series records that the Longhorns have with any current and/or former conference foe at this point in time. Oklahoma also holds a two-game winning streak currently over the Longhorns (one game if we’re only including the regular season).

Texas and Oklahoma have met three times in the last two seasons. They got to meet twice during the 2018 season, with Texas claiming the regular season win and Oklahoma getting the triumph in the Big 12 Championship Game.

There are numerous areas where Oklahoma has bragging rights over Texas, including total number of wins in program history, conference championships (49), Heisman winners (seven), and weeks ranked AP No. 1 (101). Oklahoma does hold the edge in this rivalry when both teams are ranked, by a record of 22-16-3.

And Oklahoma owns the edge in this all-time series when both teams are ranked in the top 10, 9-7-1. We’ll see where this rivalry goes in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic this fall to see if Texas can break their current two game losing streak at the hands of the Sooners.
