Rising junior Texas football linebacker Juwan Mitchell recently became yet another Longhorn to announce he might not be playing for the team any longer.

A recent growing trend is some of the more notable players for the Texas football program is the announcement that they won’t be playing another snap wearing the burnt orange. The most recent to announce that intention on social media is the former highly touted three-star JUCO linebacker recruit and rising junior Juwan Mitchell.

In a statement posted on his Twitter timeline late in the evening of June 17, Mitchell announced why he felt he won’t be playing another down representing the University of Texas. The words that stick out most here from Mitchell is that he doesn’t “feel comfortable” representing the University of Texas anymore.

This is big news that continues to be a developing storyline for the Longhorns, and the rest of the Big 12.

There is also a ton of headlines going around the Big 12 in a similar manner, after the recent controversy surrounding head coach Mike Gundy, star redshirt junior running back Chuba Hubbard, and the Oklahoma State Cowboys. That is also still a developing storyline around the Oklahoma State program and the national football media.

Mitchell now joins a list of Longhorns that also includes the likes of rising junior cornerback Anthony Cook and rising junior wide receiver Brennan Eagles that have mentioned they won’t be playing another game representing this school. Eagles was really the first to do so among the Longhorn players.

Then Cook announced on social media last week that he wouldn’t be playing another snap at the University of Texas. But Cook would also later delete that tweet that he posted last week.

Moreover, Mitchell already put his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal at one point in the offseason. He would wind up returning to the Forty Acres, just to make this announcement on his Twitter page a few months later.
