The 2021 Texas football recruiting class could be looking at a few key defensive back commits in the near future after a big day on the trail on June 15.

A crucial day on the trail for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class arrived on June 15. Head coach Tom Herman and recently hired defensive coordinator Chris Ash were able to celebrate the additions of two highly touted four-star defensive back commits that announced their decision in the same video posted on social media. The two four-star defensive backs that the Longhorns added on June 15 were Kimball cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem and Kennedale safety JD Coffey III.

Landing those two commits in the 2021 class boosted the Longhorns back into the top 10 of the national class rankings (per 247Sports Team Composite Rankings). Texas still remains as the top ranked 2021 class in the Big 12 after landing Ibraheem and Coffey.

This 2021 class is now up to 13 commits in total. Ibraheem was the first true cornerback commit in the class, and Coffey was the first at safety. There’s a few athlete commits that could technically play at one of these two positions, but that’s likely not to be the case with the personnel they have now in the group.

Yet, the Longhorns still have a lot left to do on the recruiting trail before it’s all said and done. Considering Texas is likely to have around 18-20 commits in their 2021 class when it’s all said and done, they need to have planned out how this group will round out in the next six or eight months.

Here’s a look into the three potential candidates who could be the next defensive back commit in the Longhorns 2021 recruiting class in the near future.
