The pass defense for the Longhorns presented a huge problem in recent seasons. That is largely why Herman and the Longhorns parted ways with former defensive coordinator Todd Orlando at the conclusion of the 2019 regular season. Texas allowed a completion percentage above 63.0 last season and more than 290 passing yards per game.

Those were the worst numbers the Texas pass defense posted in the Orlando-era on the Forty Acres. The season prior (when the pass defense was struggling so much throughout Big 12 play) saw Texas allow 262.3 passing yards per game, 2.2 passing touchdowns, and a completion percentage just above 60.0.

However, there is some warranted optimism for why the pass defense can improve this coming season. Texas brought aboard former Rutgers head coach Chris Ash to replace Orlando as the next defensive coordinator. And talented cornerbacks like that of rising juniors Jalen Green and D’shawn Jamison give even more reason for hope.

During his sophomore campaign, Jamison had a bit of a breakthrough. He registered 35 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions, three pass deflections, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery, in 12 games played last season. He should be facing an even bigger breakthrough this fall.

Jamison also raked in one of the most crucial interceptions last season, to help the Longhorns get their road win over the West Virginia Mountaineers.
