2. Kansas Jayhawks

If Cook wants to stick around in the Big 12, then he would be likely to land with a program that is needier in the secondary, but also one that he would be familiar with. A Big 12 program that offered Cook out of high school, but didn’t get much consideration from him for his original commitment decision, is the Kansas Jayhawks.

Former LSU head coach Les Miles did help the Kansas football program get a spike in results on the recruiting trail since he took over last offseason. But his results on the field didn’t get much better in Lawrence than they were under former head coach David Beaty. The Jayhawks finished up the 2019 season with a record of 3-9 (1-8 Big 12). Their lone wins last season came over the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Boston College Eagles, and FCS Indiana State.

Although the wins over Boston College and Texas Tech were good by Kansas’ standards last season, they almost pulled off another shock against the Longhorns. It took a field goal from kicker Cameron Dicker in the final minutes of the fourth quarter to beat Kansas last fall.

Cook would be able to provide an immediate impact for Miles and the Jayhawks if he were to land in Lawrence. He could take a pass defense that is already improving (allowed just under 250 passing yards per game last season), and help it reach new heights.

And now that former Kansas standout cornerback Hasan Defense is taking his talents to the NFL level, Cook could be one of the two projected starting cornerbacks alongside rising senior Kyle Mayberry (finished with five pass deflections last year).
