1. Texas Tech Red Raiders

A move that a few former Texas defensive backs made in the past were taking their talents off the Forty Acres and heading to Lubbock. The Texas Tech football program is taking on a new direction under former Utah State Aggies head coach Matt Wells. Texas Tech is much improved on defense, and Cook could help become a part of that.

Texas Tech did allow a less efficient completion percentage and under two passing touchdowns per game last season. But they did still manage to allow more than 300 passing yards per game to the opposition, and more than 325 per game in Big 12 play. What else could the Red Raiders to do continue to improve in this area?

Adding another defensive back out of the transfer portal might help stem some of the problem. They don’t have many players on campus that were as highly touted coming out of high school as Cook. So this could be an intriguing landing spot for him. Rising senior standout defensive back Damarcus Fields could use a lot of help in the Red Raiders secondary.

At one time, Cook would be able to join his former defensive coordinator from Texas in Todd Orlando. But it wasn’t long before Orlando bolted from Lubbock and took the defensive coordinator job opening under head coach Clay Helton with the USC Trojans. Texas Tech could still be an in-state landing spot that appeals to Cook, who received a Red Raiders offer out of high school.
