A prospect that Baylor was on early, 3-Star DE Jonathan Jones, included the 2021 Texas football recruiting class amid his five finalist schools.

An underrated position that the 2021 Texas football recruiting class could really solidify for head coach Tom Herman and recently hired defensive coordinator (and ex-Rutgers head coach) Chris Ash is defensive end. And the Longhorns got more good news for their quest to add depth with this position group on June 19, when three-star McKinney weak-side defensive end Jonathan Jones included Texas in his latest round of finalist cuts.

This 6-foot-4 and 230 pound native of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in-state just dropped his top five finalist schools on his Twitter timeline over the weekend. And his entire list of finalist schools was made up of current and former Big 12 programs.

The five schools that Jones put among his latest round of finalist cuts were the Longhorns, Colorado Buffaloes, Baylor Bears, Mizzou Tigers, and Nebraska Cornhuskers. Prior to announcing this round of finalist cuts, Jones held offers from 27 schools.

Significant schools that offered Jones that he cut in this round of finalists included the Arizona State Sun Devils, Boise State Broncos, Iowa State Cyclones, Syracuse Orange, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Virginia Tech Hokies, Washington State Cougars. A lot of the offers he held came from Group of Five programs.

The latest offer Jones received came from the Longhorns, back on May 23. Co-defensive line coaches Oscar Giles and Mark Hagen are clearly making an impact with Jones heading into the summer months.

Jones ranks as the nation’s No. 796 2021 high school prospect, No. 52 at his position, and No. 108 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). ESPN ranks him as the region’s No. 139 2021 high school prospect, No. 74 at his position, and the No. 106 prospect out of Texas.
