Baker Mayfield did not like a picture of him in a Texas football uniform
Austin native and former Texas football foe Baker Mayfield did not enjoy the edit shared of him on Instagram in a Longhorns uniform on June 25.
During a series of pictures that they posted on their Instagram page on June 25, ESPN created quite a star by letting fans imagine what Heisman Trophy winners mostly since the turn of the century would do if they played for their rival school. In this case, one of the posts came from a former foe of the Texas football program. Ex-Oklahoma Sooners Heisman winning star quarterback Baker Mayfield was not happy getting shown on Instagram in a Longhorns uniform either.
In this Instagram post on ESPN’s page, Mayfield actually responded with a not too kind remark.
He commented on that post from ESPN, saying that if he had to play for the Longhorns he would “rather quit”. There is that usual chip on the shoulder of Mayfield that won’t go away when the Longhorns are involved in the discussion.
A few of the other former Heisman Trophy winners that were featured in this Instagram post from ESPN included Tim Tebow, Matt Leinart, Derrick Henry, and Eddie George. The former Florida Gators star dual-threat quarterback Tebow was put in a Georgia Bulldogs uniform, Leinart with the UCLA Bruins, Henry with the Auburn Tigers, and George with the Michigan Wolverines.

Without a doubt, the most charged response here came from Mayfield. And this is not the first time that he responded out of hatred for the Longhorns when the Red River Rivalry conversation is brought about.
Granted there’s not much else to do right now in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic since it doesn’t look like team workouts are starting up soon in the NFL. Yet, Mayfield didn’t have his best showing during his sophomore run with the Cleveland Browns last season.
Last season with the Browns, Mayfield missed out on the playoffs and tossed 22 touchdowns compared to a whopping 21 interceptions. He was also sacked 40 times, led three less game winning drives, and increased his interception rate by one percent.
