1. Reggie Hemphill-Mapps, Wide Receiver

Among any of the wide receivers that left the Longhorns program in the last couple of years, it feels like the former three-star recruit and Manvel, TX, native Reggie Hemphill-Mapps. This Manvel High School product was one of the gem finds out of the gates for the Longhorns 2016 recruiting class.

Currently at Missouri Southern State, Hemphill-Mapps didn’t get much of a chance to show what he can do. He only got one year on the Forty Acres to make his impact. And he looked really good early on. His time playing Power Five college football was definitely cut way too short. There was a point in time where he looked to be the next big thing as a versatile threat in the receiving corps.

During his redshirt freshman season with the Longhorns, Hemphill-Mapps registered 37 catches for 402 yards, but he never got in the end zone via the passing game. During the 2017 season, Hemphill-Mapps was one of the emerging targets for then true freshman quarterback Sam Ehlinger. Texas had a potential star duo in the making with them.

There was also a big impact that Hemphill-Mapps made on special teams. The lone touchdown he registered during his one year playing at Texas was off a punt return in an eventual gut-wrenching overtime loss at the hands of the Oklahoma State Cowboys. He really was looking to be special on multiple sides of the ball.
