3. Damion James, Forward

While he had yet to reach his true potential as a Longhorn during his true freshman campaign, when he was also KD’s teammate, the 6-foot-7 and 225 pound small forward James still had a good run in 2006-07. James would still play in 35 games during his freshman season (starting in every single one of those games).

James averaged 7.6 points per game, 7.2 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.6 steals, and 1.2 blocks, in 2006-07. He did that while shooting 49.3 percent from the field and 59.5 percent from the free-throw line. It did take a while for James to find his shooting legs from the charity stripe and from beyond the arc. He shot below 10 percent from downtown as a freshman, but 36.4 percent for his career.

During his freshman campaign, James was still efficient posting .133 win shares per 40 minutes, 3.0 total win shares, around a 15.0 rebounding percentage, 15.4 player efficiency rating, and 108.0 offensive rating/98.8 defensive rating. His efficient ways would only pickup from where he sat as a freshman at Texas.

From then out on, James would go on to rake in three All-Big 12 honors, one All-Big 12 Tournament Team selection, and he was a Wooden Award Finalist during the 2009-10 season. He finished out with more than 20 total win shares, 22.36 player efficiency rating, and a 54.1 true shooting percentage, for his career at Texas.
