The Florida State Seminoles could be losing a very effective and potent defensive back to the transfer portal this offseason if rising junior former four-star recruit AJ Lytton doesn’t return to Tallahassee. Florida State went through quite the coaching carousel in the last couple of years, and Lytton appears to be one of the players that was left behind amid all the changes.

Once former Noles head coach Jimbo Fisher bolted for the Longhorns in-state rival Texas A&M Aggies, their coaching carousel didn’t really stop spinning. They went through Willie Taggart and now former Memphis Tigers head coach Mike Norvell in that same role. We’ll see where Norvell can take the Florida State program from here on out.

Lytton was a highly touted four-star recruit coming out of Dr. Henry Wise High School in Upper Marlboro, MD. He ranked as the nation’s No. 50 2018 high school prospect, No. 7 cornerback, and No. 3 prospect out of Maryland (247Sports Composite). He held offers from a number of blue bloods (nearly 20 schools), but Texas was not one of them.

This is now the chance that Texas could be looking for to find their next answer to fill a new void in the defensive backfield. Lytton could play at cornerback of safety for the Longhorns, and immediately fill the shoes left behind by Cook. He played in 12 games during his two seasons at Florida State while registering 27 total tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception, and two pass deflections.
