Safety. 1952-1959. 1. 49. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Bobby Dillon

During the 1959 season, the Green Bay Packers were just getting underway with the legendary head coach Vince Lombardi at the helm. The Packers were also in their final year in which eventual Pro Football Hall-of-Fame safety Bobby Dillon would be playing on the Frozen Tundra of Green Bay.

The former Longhorn legend Dillon was one of the best defensive backs ever to do it on the Forty Acers and then to funnel from the Texas program to the NFL. Dillon was originally picked by the Packers with the 28th overall pick in the third round of the 1952 NFL Draft. That turned out to be an absolute steal for the Packers.

Earlier this year, Dillon was part of the Pro Football Hall-of-Fame induction class that finally gave him what he well deserved. The 6-foot-1 and 180 pound Temple, TX, native wound up with four Pro Bowl selections and four All-Pro Team honors. He registered an astounding 52 interceptions in just eight seasons in the NFL, and five returned for touchdowns.

Dillon also amounted three fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble, with the Packers (at least among actually recorded stats). He also still ranks among the top 35 players in NFL history in terms of interceptions returned for a touchdown and total career interceptions. Even in his final season in the NFL, Dillon was a Second Team All-Pro selection in the New York Daily News.
