Texas Football: 3 best remaining 2021 Longhorns WR targets
The 2021 Texas football recruiting class is starting to see the amount of uncommitted wide receiver targets they have for this cycle wind way down.
After losing the commitment of four-star wide receiver Teddy Knox, hailing out of The Woodlands High School in Houston, TX, to the Mississippi State Bulldogs and head coach Mike Leach, the Longhorns are starting to get down to it with this position group. In the 2021 Texas football recruiting class, only one commit hails from a wide receiver.
And that lone wide receiver commitment that head coach Tom Herman and recently promoted wide receivers coach Andre Coleman holds in the 2021 class is from three-star Warren Easton product Casey Cain. The New Orleans, LA native Cain doesn’t even rank among the top 800 2021 high school prospects in the nation.
Texas does need to add more talent at the wide receiver position any way they can for this recruiting cycle. They only signed one four-star wide receiver prospect in the 2020 recruiting class, with former four-star Texas A&M Aggies commit and Fort Bend Austin product Troy Omeire.
The 2021 class for the Longhorns is starting to come together in solid fashion. They hold commitments from 13 prospects, with the highest ranked being five-star Denton-Ryan athlete Ja’Tavion Sanders. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 10 in the nation and remains in the top spot in the Big 12.
Herman is on a quest to claim his fourth straight top 10 ranked recruiting class in the nation. But there’s more to the construction of the 2021 class than just landing another top 10 ranking. Texas needs to make sure the skill positions are sound, and that can start at wide receiver.
Here’s a look into three of the best remaining realistic wide receiver targets in the 2021 Texas recruiting class.
